Project Biologist/Botanist

We are seeking a Project Biologist/Botanist to support the delivery of ecological and botanical projects across a range of terrestrial environments. This role will suit an experienced environmental professional who can combine strong field skills with sound scientific judgement, clear communication and effective project coordination. You will contribute to surveys, impact assessments, monitoring programmes and technical reporting, helping clients and project teams understand ecological constraints and opportunities.

Key responsibilities will include planning and undertaking botanical, habitat and vegetation surveys; identifying flora and ecological communities; recording and interpreting field data; and preparing high-quality technical reports, maps and supporting documentation. You will assist with ecological impact assessments, environmental approvals, management plans and restoration or rehabilitation projects. The role may also involve supervising field teams, coordinating subcontractors, reviewing data and reports, contributing to project budgets and schedules, and liaising with clients, regulators, landholders and other technical specialists. Some regional and overnight travel, early starts and work in variable weather conditions will be required.

Applicants should have a relevant tertiary qualification in botany, biology, ecology, environmental science or a related discipline, together with demonstrated experience in botanical or ecological fieldwork. Strong plant identification skills and knowledge of relevant vegetation communities, threatened species and environmental legislation will be highly regarded. Experience with ecological assessment methods, data management, technical writing and geographic information systems is desirable. You will be organised, safety-conscious and able to work independently while contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams. A current driver’s licence and the ability to undertake fieldwork are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to scientific integrity, practical environmental outcomes and professional service delivery.
