Project Biologist (On Call)
We are seeking a qualified and adaptable Project Biologist (On Call) to provide biological and environmental support across a range of field, laboratory, and project-based activities. This role is suited to a motivated professional who can respond to changing priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams. Assignments may vary in duration and location, with opportunities to support environmental assessments, ecological monitoring, research programs, regulatory submissions, and technical reporting.
Key responsibilities include planning and conducting biological surveys; collecting, handling, and documenting field samples; identifying flora, fauna, habitats, or other biological indicators; and maintaining accurate field notes, databases, and chain-of-custody records. You may assist with environmental impact assessments, species-at-risk surveys, habitat evaluations, restoration monitoring, and compliance inspections. The role may also involve reviewing technical information, preparing clear and concise reports, maps, and data summaries, supporting permit or regulatory requirements, and communicating findings to project managers, clients, regulators, and field personnel. All work must be completed in accordance with approved protocols, health and safety procedures, applicable legislation, and professional standards.
Applicants should have a degree, diploma, or equivalent education in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline, along with relevant field or project experience. Familiarity with biological survey methods, environmental regulations, data management, and technical writing is strongly preferred. Experience using GPS equipment, GIS software, spreadsheets, and standard field monitoring tools will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work safely in varied outdoor conditions. Availability for short-notice assignments, travel, early starts, occasional evenings or weekends, and physically demanding fieldwork may be required. A valid driver’s licence and the ability to obtain necessary safety certifications are also desirable.
