We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer specialising in metro rail design, tunnel ventilation and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to support the delivery of complex underground transport infrastructure. In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis and coordination of ventilation systems for tunnels, stations and associated facilities, helping to ensure safe, reliable and compliant environments for passengers, staff and emergency responders.
Your responsibilities will include developing ventilation concepts and detailed designs; preparing CFD models and simulations for smoke control, emergency scenarios, heat management and airflow distribution; interpreting results and recommending practical engineering solutions; and producing calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings and design documentation. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, operators and other stakeholders to coordinate interfaces, resolve technical issues and support design reviews. The role may also involve site inspections, responding to technical queries, reviewing supplier information, supporting testing and commissioning activities, and contributing to project planning, risk assessments and compliance with relevant rail, building services, fire safety and occupational health requirements.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline, with professional experience in tunnel ventilation, smoke control, rail infrastructure or complex HVAC design. Demonstrable experience using CFD software and interpreting simulation results is essential, together with the ability to apply engineering principles to both normal and emergency operating conditions. Knowledge of metro or railway standards, fire and life safety requirements, ventilation control systems and multidisciplinary design coordination would be advantageous. You will need strong analytical, technical writing and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities across multiple projects. Professional registration or progress towards registration is desirable. This opportunity suits an engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and wants to contribute to safe, sustainable and high-performing transport infrastructure.
