Train RAMS engineer
We are seeking a Train RAMS Engineer to support the development, assurance and delivery of safe, reliable and maintainable rail vehicles and associated systems. You will contribute to RAMS activities throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and design through testing, acceptance and in-service support. Working with engineering, project, safety and operations teams, you will help ensure that technical solutions meet contractual, regulatory and performance requirements.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and maintaining RAMS plans, analyses, calculations, predictions, safety cases and supporting documentation. You will carry out reliability, availability and maintainability assessments, including failure mode, effects and criticality analysis, fault tree analysis, hazard analysis and reliability block diagram development. You will support the creation and management of hazard logs, safety requirements, safety evidence and assurance cases, ensuring that risks are identified, controlled and traceable throughout the project. You will also review design changes, investigate failures and operational issues, and recommend practical improvements to increase fleet performance and reduce safety or maintenance risks.
The successful candidate will have experience in a RAMS, systems engineering, safety assurance or rolling stock environment, with a sound understanding of relevant railway standards, legislation and industry practices. Knowledge of standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129, or equivalent RAMS and functional safety frameworks, would be advantageous. You should be confident interpreting technical data, producing clear reports and presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, safety engineering or a related discipline is preferred, and experience with RAMS tools, requirements management systems or safety databases would be beneficial.
