Power Supply – OCS Engineer
We are seeking a Power Supply – OCS Engineer to support the design, delivery, testing and commissioning of railway electrical infrastructure. The role will focus on traction power supply and overhead catenary systems (OCS), ensuring that all engineering activities meet applicable technical standards, safety requirements, performance criteria and project schedules. You will work closely with design, construction, systems, operations and maintenance teams to deliver reliable and maintainable railway assets.
Responsibilities will include reviewing and developing technical designs for traction substations, sectioning and paralleling equipment, return circuits, bonding, earthing and OCS arrangements. You will prepare and check specifications, calculations, drawings, interface documents, method statements and technical reports. The role will involve coordinating interfaces with civil works, track, signalling, telecommunications and rolling stock disciplines, identifying technical risks, supporting design reviews, and resolving engineering issues during construction. You will also contribute to factory acceptance testing, site inspections, installation verification, testing and commissioning activities, including the investigation and close-out of defects and non-conformances. Providing technical support to project teams, contractors and stakeholders will be an important part of the position.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering, power systems, railway engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in traction power, OCS or high-voltage infrastructure. A strong understanding of railway electrification principles, electrical protection, earthing and bonding, isolation procedures and interface management is required. Experience with design standards, engineering assurance, risk assessment and commissioning documentation is highly desirable. Familiarity with engineering software and drawing or document-control systems would be advantageous. You should be analytical, safety-conscious and confident working across multidisciplinary teams, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. The role may require travel to project sites and occasional work outside standard hours during testing or commissioning.
