External Interface Engineer - ALTO

We are seeking an External Interface Engineer to support the development, integration and maintenance of interfaces between engineering systems, operational platforms and external partners. In this role, you will translate technical and business requirements into reliable interface solutions, helping ensure that data is exchanged accurately, securely and efficiently across multiple environments. You will work closely with internal engineering, software, systems and project teams, as well as suppliers and other external stakeholders, to coordinate technical activities and resolve integration challenges.

Your responsibilities will include defining interface specifications, reviewing data formats and communication protocols, supporting system integration activities, and contributing to verification and validation plans. You will investigate interface defects, analyse logs and test results, track issues through to resolution, and ensure that changes are properly documented and controlled. The role will also involve preparing technical documentation, participating in design reviews, supporting testing and commissioning, and identifying opportunities to improve interface performance, reliability and maintainability. You may also contribute to risk assessments, configuration management and the development of engineering standards and processes.

Applicants should have experience in systems engineering, software integration, interface development or a closely related technical discipline. A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, computer science or another relevant subject is desirable. You should be comfortable working with structured data, APIs, messaging systems, databases and interface control documentation, with practical experience of troubleshooting complex technical issues. Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills are essential, along with the ability to organise your work, manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. An analytical, methodical approach and a commitment to quality, security and continuous improvement are expected.
