This is a site-based leadership role, responsible for coordinating electrical activities, supervising specialist teams and ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of safety, quality and reliability.
You will provide clear direction to authorised and competent persons, oversee planned and reactive maintenance, and support the installation, testing and commissioning of high voltage systems. The role will involve close collaboration with engineering, construction, operations and contractor teams to maintain programme progress and minimise operational risk.
Key responsibilities Lead and supervise high voltage maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning activities. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, technical standards, safe systems of work and site procedures. Manage switching operations, isolation procedures, permits to work and electrical safety documentation. Coordinate subcontractors and specialist electrical teams, monitoring performance, workmanship and productivity. Review method statements, risk assessments, inspection records and commissioning documentation. Support fault-finding, equipment inspections and the resolution of technical and operational issues. Promote a strong safety culture through briefings, audits, coaching and visible leadership. Provide progress updates, identify emerging risks and contribute to project planning and reporting. About youYou will have substantial experience working with high voltage electrical systems, ideally within utilities, energy, manufacturing, rail, construction or a similar technically demanding environment. A recognised electrical qualification and formal authorisation to supervise or control high voltage activities are essential. Experience with substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and testing regimes would be highly advantageous.
You should be confident interpreting electrical drawings and technical specifications, leading teams in a safety-critical setting and making sound decisions under pressure. Strong communication, planning and problem-solving skills are required, together with a proactive approach to quality and continuous improvement. The role may require shift work, travel or extended site attendance depending on operational requirements.
