Assistant Superintendent - Water/Wastewater - RALEIGH/DURHAM

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to support the delivery of water and wastewater construction projects across the Raleigh-Durham area. This role will assist with the day-to-day supervision of field operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards. Projects may include water and sewer mains, pump stations, treatment facilities, underground utilities, rehabilitation, and related civil infrastructure.

Responsibilities will include coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, equipment, materials, inspections, and workforce activities on site. You will work closely with the Superintendent, Project Manager, engineers, inspectors, and client representatives to maintain progress and resolve field issues. Duties will include interpreting drawings and specifications, assisting with look-ahead planning and scheduling, monitoring productivity, documenting daily activities, reviewing quantities, supporting change order processes, and helping maintain accurate project records. You will also promote a strong safety culture by conducting or participating in toolbox talks, identifying hazards, enforcing safe work practices, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and project requirements.

The successful candidate will bring several years of experience in heavy civil, utility, water, wastewater, or related construction, with demonstrated field leadership experience. Strong knowledge of underground utility installation, excavation, trench safety, concrete, paving, site logistics, and construction sequencing is preferred. The ability to read plans, use project documentation and scheduling tools, communicate clearly, and work effectively in a fast-paced field environment is essential. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical training, industry certifications, or a degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related discipline will be advantageous. A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel between project sites may be required. This position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and may require extended hours to meet project milestones.
