Assistant Superintendent - Water/Wastewater - Charlotte
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to support the successful delivery of water and wastewater construction projects in the Charlotte area. This role will assist the Superintendent with coordinating daily field operations, maintaining safe and productive work sites, and ensuring projects are completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, foremen, subcontractors, inspectors, vendors, and utility representatives to keep construction activities moving efficiently.
Key responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications, helping establish short-term work plans, coordinating crews and equipment, monitoring production, and identifying potential delays or site issues before they affect the schedule. You will help oversee the installation, repair, and testing of water mains, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater infrastructure, pump stations, treatment-related structures, and associated underground utilities. Additional duties include supporting site logistics, verifying materials and workmanship, maintaining accurate daily reports, tracking quantities, assisting with change documentation, and participating in inspections, testing, start-up, and project closeout activities. You will also help enforce site safety requirements, conduct toolbox talks, promote proper use of personal protective equipment, and ensure work complies with applicable regulations and environmental controls.
Qualified candidates should have several years of experience in heavy civil, utility, water, or wastewater construction, with previous experience leading crews or supporting a Superintendent. A strong understanding of construction methods, utility installation, site grading, trench safety, dewatering, and reading civil construction drawings is preferred. The role requires effective communication, sound judgment, organization, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced field environment. Proficiency with daily reporting, scheduling, and basic construction technology is advantageous. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; relevant technical training, certifications, or a degree in construction management or a related discipline is preferred. The ability to travel locally between project sites, work outdoors in varying conditions, and maintain a valid driver’s license is also required.
