Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager - Water/Wastewater - Charlotte
We are seeking a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who can coordinate field operations, manage project documentation, and contribute to the successful delivery of complex utility and civil construction work. Projects may include water distribution systems, sanitary sewer improvements, pump stations, treatment facilities, pipelines, and related infrastructure.
Responsibilities will include assisting with or leading project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and cost control. You will work closely with clients, engineers, inspectors, vendors, subcontractors, and field teams to monitor progress and resolve issues promptly. The role will involve reviewing plans and specifications, preparing and tracking submittals, change orders, pay applications, RFIs, daily reports, and project schedules, as well as supporting quality control, safety compliance, permitting, and closeout activities. You may also participate in progress meetings, site walks, client updates, and risk assessments while ensuring work is completed in accordance with contract requirements and applicable regulations.
Qualified candidates should have experience in water, wastewater, utility, heavy civil, or related construction, with a strong understanding of project management principles and construction processes. A degree in construction management, civil engineering, engineering technology, or a related discipline is preferred, though equivalent practical experience will be considered. Assistant-level candidates should demonstrate strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to learn quickly and support multiple project priorities. Project Manager candidates should have a proven record of managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships from project start through completion. Proficiency with construction management, scheduling, estimating, and document-control software is beneficial. The position requires occasional travel to project sites, the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to safety, quality, and professional integrity.
