Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater - RALEIGH/DURHAM
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the Raleigh/Durham area. This role is suited to an organised, technically minded professional who can coordinate project activities, communicate effectively with clients and contractors, and help ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities will include assisting with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and contract administration; reviewing plans, specifications, submittals, and technical documents; tracking project progress, costs, changes, and risks; and preparing status reports for project managers and stakeholders. You will coordinate with design teams, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to resolve issues and maintain project momentum. The position may also involve supporting site visits, inspections, meetings, commissioning activities, and the preparation of estimates, scopes of work, progress documentation, and close-out materials. A strong focus on health and safety, quality assurance, environmental compliance, and accurate record keeping is essential.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, construction, or a related engineering discipline, along with experience supporting water, wastewater, utility, or heavy civil projects. Knowledge of construction methods, project controls, contract documents, and applicable industry standards is preferred. The ability to read engineering drawings and specifications, manage multiple priorities, and use tools such as Microsoft Office, scheduling software, and project management systems is required. An engineering-in-training certification, professional registration, or relevant project management qualification would be advantageous. Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach are essential. A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites within the region may also be required.
