We are seeking an experienced Rail Track Discipline Lead to provide technical leadership across the development, design, delivery and assurance of track engineering projects. This role will lead the application of industry standards and best practice, ensuring that track solutions are safe, constructible, maintainable and delivered to the required quality, cost and programme. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and supply-chain partners to coordinate technical activities and support successful project outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include leading track engineering teams and providing guidance on design solutions, technical reviews, specifications, asset interfaces and construction methodologies. You will manage discipline deliverables, identify and control technical risks, review and approve designs within your delegated authority, and ensure compliance with relevant railway standards, legislation and assurance processes. The role will also involve supporting tenders and bids, preparing estimates and technical proposals, contributing to project planning, and representing the track discipline at design, progress and stakeholder meetings. You will promote a strong safety culture and encourage the consistent use of effective engineering, quality and document-control practices.
Applicants should hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification in civil engineering, railway engineering or a related discipline, together with substantial experience in permanent-way or rail track engineering. Professional registration, or demonstrable progress towards chartership, would be advantageous. You will have a strong understanding of track design, construction, renewals, maintenance and interfaces with other rail systems, as well as experience working within controlled engineering and assurance environments. Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and influence stakeholders at all levels. A flexible approach to travel and occasional site, night or weekend work may be required.
