Project Manager – Water/Wastewater (Cary, NC & Charlotte, NC)

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead water and wastewater infrastructure projects based in Cary, NC or Charlotte, NC. This role will oversee projects from initial planning and design through construction, commissioning, and closeout, ensuring that work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will manage multiple assignments while building strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal technical teams.

Key responsibilities include defining project scope, preparing schedules and budgets, monitoring financial performance, managing contracts and change orders, and identifying and mitigating project risks. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, review technical deliverables, support permitting and regulatory compliance, and lead progress meetings with project stakeholders. The role will also involve supervising construction activities, resolving complex technical or delivery issues, tracking milestones, preparing status reports, and ensuring that project documentation is complete and accurate. You may also contribute to proposals, client presentations, business development activities, and the development of less experienced staff.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, along with several years of progressive experience delivering water and wastewater projects. Experience with treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, utilities, or related municipal infrastructure is highly desirable. Professional Engineer licensure, or the ability to obtain it, is preferred. Strong knowledge of project management principles, contracts, budgeting, scheduling, and applicable codes and regulations is required. Excellent communication, organisational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with diverse teams. Occasional travel to project sites and client locations may be required.
