Track Assistant Technician

We are seeking a motivated Track Assistant Technician to support the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of railway infrastructure. Working as part of an experienced track maintenance team, you will assist with inspections, repairs and renewal activities across the rail network. This is a practical role requiring a strong commitment to safety, good attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in outdoor environments and changing weather conditions.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with the inspection and maintenance of track, sleepers, ballast, switches, crossings and associated equipment. You will help identify defects, carry out routine repairs and support planned renewal works in accordance with technical instructions and safe systems of work. Duties may include using hand tools, small plant and measuring equipment, loading and unloading materials, keeping work areas tidy and reporting hazards or defects to supervisors. You will also complete work records and follow all relevant procedures relating to track access, personal protective equipment and operational safety.

The successful candidate will be reliable, physically capable and willing to work as part of a team in demanding conditions. You should be comfortable working near operational railway environments and able to follow instructions carefully while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Previous experience in rail, construction, engineering, maintenance or another hands-on environment is desirable, although full training may be provided for candidates with the right attitude and transferable skills. A willingness to work shifts, nights, weekends and emergency call-outs is essential, together with the ability to travel to different work locations. You will need to meet any required medical, safety and background screening standards and demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and career development.
