Track Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Track Engineer to support the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of rail infrastructure projects. In this role, you will provide technical expertise across track design, construction, maintenance and renewal activities, ensuring that work is delivered in accordance with relevant standards, engineering principles and operational requirements. You will contribute to the development of technical solutions, review engineering documentation and support the delivery of projects from initial planning through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include assessing track condition, investigating defects and failures, preparing technical reports and developing recommendations for remedial or improvement works. You will review designs, specifications, work plans and method statements, while collaborating with project managers, contractors, maintenance teams and other engineering disciplines. You will also support site inspections, construction assurance, testing and commissioning activities, ensuring that risks are identified and controlled throughout the project lifecycle. Maintaining accurate records and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives will be an important part of the position.

Applicants should have a relevant degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, railway engineering or a related discipline, together with professional experience in track engineering or rail infrastructure. A strong understanding of track components, geometry, materials, construction methods, maintenance practices and applicable safety standards is essential. Experience with engineering documentation, technical assurance and contractor management would be advantageous. You should be analytical, organised and confident communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and attend site locations when required is also important. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status would be beneficial.
