We are seeking a skilled Rail Track Designer to support the development and delivery of safe, efficient, and constructible railway infrastructure projects. You will contribute to the design of new and upgraded track systems across a range of projects, from early feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction support. The role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, contractors, and other rail disciplines.
Your responsibilities will include preparing track alignment designs, layouts, profiles, cross-sections, and associated technical drawings in accordance with relevant railway standards, design codes, and project requirements. You will undertake design calculations, coordinate interfaces with civil, signalling, electrification, drainage, structures, and stations teams, and review designs to ensure compliance, buildability, maintainability, and safety. You will also assist with site surveys, inspections, design reviews, technical reports, risk assessments, and responses to technical queries. Where required, you will provide support during construction, investigate design issues, and contribute to the resolution of engineering challenges.
Applicants should have professional experience in rail track design, permanent way engineering, or a closely related discipline, supported by relevant technical qualifications or equivalent practical experience. Proficiency with industry-standard design and drafting software is essential, along with the ability to interpret survey data, engineering drawings, specifications, and asset information. Knowledge of track geometry, switches and crossings, clearances, interfaces, and railway construction methods is highly desirable. You should be organised, commercially aware, and confident communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A proactive approach to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to manage competing priorities, work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and maintain accurate project documentation while meeting agreed deadlines.
