Estimator- Underground Utilities

We are seeking an experienced Estimator – Underground Utilities to prepare accurate, competitive tenders for civil infrastructure and utility projects. This role will suit a detail-oriented professional with strong commercial awareness and a sound understanding of underground construction methods, including water, sewer, stormwater, gas, electrical, and telecommunications works. You will assess project documentation, develop estimates, and support the delivery of bids that are technically sound and commercially viable.

Key responsibilities will include reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and site conditions; preparing detailed cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and bills of quantities; obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations; identifying project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and opportunities; and maintaining accurate estimating records. You will liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal project teams to clarify requirements and ensure tenders are submitted accurately and on time. The role will also involve contributing to tender presentations, handover meetings, cost planning, and continuous improvement of estimating processes, systems, and pricing databases.

To be successful, you will have demonstrated experience estimating underground utilities, civil construction, or related infrastructure projects. You will be confident interpreting engineering plans and technical documentation, calculating quantities, and applying construction methodologies to develop realistic pricing. Strong skills in spreadsheets and estimating software are essential, along with excellent numerical, analytical, organisational, and written communication abilities. A relevant qualification in civil engineering, construction management, quantity surveying, or a related discipline is desirable. You will be proactive, commercially focused, and able to manage competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. A practical understanding of health and safety requirements, contract conditions, procurement, and construction sequencing will also be valued.
