Traveling Assistant General Superintendent (Utilities Sewer and Water)
We are seeking a Traveling Assistant General Superintendent to support the successful delivery of major sewer, water, and utility construction projects across multiple locations. This position will assist with overall field operations, coordinating crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and project schedules to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and contractual requirements. Extensive travel is required, with assignments based on project needs.
Key responsibilities include supporting the General Superintendent with daily planning and site coordination; interpreting drawings, specifications, and utility layouts; monitoring production, quality, and progress; and helping resolve field issues in a timely manner. You will coordinate excavation, trenching, pipe installation, manholes, lift stations, water mains, service connections, testing, paving, restoration, and related civil work. The role will also involve leading foremen and craft personnel, coordinating subcontractors and inspectors, tracking labor and equipment, reviewing deliveries, maintaining accurate daily reports, and communicating project status to project management. You will promote a strong safety culture, enforce company and regulatory requirements, participate in inspections and meetings, and help ensure environmental and traffic-control obligations are met.
Candidates should have substantial experience supervising utility or heavy civil construction, preferably involving municipal sewer and water infrastructure. A thorough understanding of construction sequencing, utility installation methods, site logistics, surveying practices, safety procedures, and quality-control requirements is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to read plans, manage changing priorities, and work effectively with diverse project teams. Proficiency with standard construction documentation and scheduling tools is desirable. A valid driver’s license, willingness to travel extensively, and flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional nights or weekends, are required. Experience progressing from field supervision toward broader project oversight will be highly valued.
