Utilities Interface Engineer - Rail Infrastructure
We are seeking a Utilities Interface Engineer to support the delivery of a major rail infrastructure programme. This role will coordinate the design, assessment, protection, diversion and installation of utility assets affected by railway works, ensuring that interfaces are managed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements. You will work across multidisciplinary engineering, construction, commercial and stakeholder teams to identify risks, resolve technical issues and maintain progress through design and delivery.
Key responsibilities will include developing and maintaining utility interface registers, coordinating surveys and investigations, reviewing utility records and technical submissions, and supporting the development of diversion and protection strategies. You will liaise with utility owners, local authorities, contractors, designers and rail systems teams to agree solutions, access requirements, programme constraints and approval processes. The role will also involve monitoring design deliverables, reviewing temporary and permanent works proposals, supporting construction planning, managing interface risks and ensuring that changes are properly recorded and communicated. You may also contribute to site inspections, technical workshops, progress meetings and the resolution of issues arising during construction.
Applicants should have proven experience in utilities coordination, infrastructure engineering, rail, highways, civils or a related environment, with a strong understanding of utility assets and their interaction with major construction projects. Experience managing interfaces between multiple stakeholders, reviewing engineering information and working within formal assurance, health and safety and change-control processes is essential. Knowledge of relevant UK standards, legislation, permits and approval procedures would be advantageous. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are required, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and build effective working relationships. A relevant engineering or technical qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience, is expected. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-focused and committed to delivering safe, practical and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
