We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Estimator / Preconstruction Coordinator to support the successful planning and pricing of construction projects from early concept through contract award. This role will be responsible for reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation to develop accurate, competitive and commercially sound estimates. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, designers, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to clarify requirements, identify risks and ensure all pricing assumptions are clearly documented.
Key responsibilities will include preparing quantity take-offs, cost plans, estimates, bid summaries and tender submissions; obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotations; maintaining pricing databases and historical cost information; reviewing plans for omissions, inconsistencies and value-engineering opportunities; and assisting with project budgets, schedules and procurement strategies. You will coordinate preconstruction activities, track tender deadlines, prepare requests for information, participate in bid meetings and support the transition of awarded projects to the delivery team. The role will also involve monitoring changes in design or scope and updating estimates accordingly, while ensuring all work is completed accurately and on time.
Applicants should have proven experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying, preconstruction or a related commercial role, together with a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labour costs and subcontractor pricing. The ability to interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings is essential, as is confidence using estimating and spreadsheet software. Strong numerical, analytical, organisational and communication skills are required, along with a high level of attention to detail. Experience with commercial, residential, civil or fit-out projects will be advantageous. The successful candidate will be proactive, collaborative and capable of managing multiple tenders and competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
