Dam Instrumentation specialist

Project Information: World Bank Funded, 5 year project covering the rehabilitation and improvement of 100+ Dams. As The Dam Design Expert you will act as the coordinator of design review part of the project under the Team Leader responsibility.

Dam Type: Earthbank Dams

Assignment Length: Initial 18 Months Contract

He/ She should have minimum 10 year experience instrumentation of large dams.

Description of the Expert tasks:

The Dam Instrumentation Specialist will be in charge of reviewing the improvement of dam monitoring and recording instrumentation performed within the project, and ensures they are implemented to internationally acceptable standards.

The services that the expert should provide include, but not limited to:


Dam Instrumentation Review
Some of the old dams may not have adequate dam monitoring instrumentations, and in some cases malfunctioning of instruments due to aging as well as lack of maintenance is expected. Rehabilitation involves improving dam safety instrumentation to monitor and record structural behavior, displacements, seepage and related hydro-meteorological and seismic factors to forewarn dam operators of possible risks, as well as provision of software for analyzing and evaluating data generated by dam instruments.

The Dam Instrumentation Specialist shall carry out review of the number and type of instruments installed and their conditions; review of additional instruments suggested, required and feasible; review of data logging arrangements; and review of data analyzing methodology and related software.

The specialist will also propose enhancements on monitoring and recording instrumentation. He/ She will review software requirements for analyzing and evaluating data generated by the dam instrumentation and interpretation of collected data to forewarn dam operators of possible risk interpretation and risk assessment


Dam Safety Institutional Strengthening
The Dam instrumentation specialist will be providing the required services to enable the State Dam Safety Organizations (SDSOs) and the Dam Safety Organizations of CWC (DSO-CWC) to carry out State level, Central level and selected institution dam safety strengthening in an effective and timely manner, on its scope of the project.


Project Planning and Monitoring
The Expert will be required in the data qualification and collection process in order to provide the team leader with sufficient information to ensure correct planning and monitoring, in its scope of the project.

Salary Package: 7000 - 11,000 Euros Per Month
