Water Resources Engineering Specialist
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineering Specialist to support the planning, design and delivery of projects involving water supply, drainage, flood risk management and sustainable water resource use. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise across the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and option appraisal through to detailed design, construction support and operational review. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, resilient and environmentally responsible solutions that meet relevant legislation, standards and client requirements.
Key responsibilities will include preparing hydrological and hydraulic assessments, water balance studies, flood risk assessments, drainage strategies and associated technical reports. You will develop and review calculations, models, drawings, specifications and tender documentation, using appropriate engineering software and data analysis techniques. The role will also involve interpreting monitoring and survey data, identifying risks and opportunities, supporting planning and permitting activities, and contributing to the assessment of climate change impacts and nature-based solutions. You may be required to attend site visits, liaise with contractors and stakeholders, inspect works, and provide technical advice during construction and commissioning.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience. A sound understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, flood risk management and water-related regulations is essential. Experience with industry-standard modelling and design tools, such as GIS and hydraulic or hydrological software, would be advantageous. You should be able to communicate complex technical information clearly, produce accurate written work and manage competing priorities effectively. A collaborative approach, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and a commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental performance are also required. Professional registration, or progress towards registration with an appropriate engineering institution, would be desirable.
