Civil Engineer (Water Resources/Conveyance and Underground Utilities Specialist)
We are seeking a Civil Engineer specialising in water resources, conveyance systems and underground utilities to support the planning, design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will contribute to schemes involving water supply, drainage, stormwater management, sewerage, pipelines, pumping systems, utility corridors and associated civil works. This role will involve working across the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction support and commissioning.
Key responsibilities include preparing calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimates; developing hydraulic and civil engineering designs; coordinating utility surveys and underground service investigations; and identifying, assessing and resolving clashes between existing and proposed infrastructure. You will review design packages, oversee technical deliverables, support permitting and approvals, and provide engineering advice to project managers, contractors, clients and other stakeholders. The role may also include site inspections, construction monitoring, responding to technical queries, reviewing contractor submissions and assisting with risk, programme and quality management.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering and have relevant professional experience in water infrastructure, conveyance, drainage or underground utilities. Membership of an appropriate professional engineering body, or progress towards professional registration, is desirable. You should have a sound understanding of hydraulic principles, pipeline design, earthworks, utility coordination, trenchless or conventional construction methods, and applicable technical standards and regulations. Experience with design and modelling software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, GIS, hydraulic modelling platforms or similar tools will be advantageous. Strong analytical, communication and report-writing skills are essential, together with the ability to manage priorities, work collaboratively and deliver accurate technical solutions within agreed timescales.
