We are seeking an Engineer I – Highways to support the planning, design, and delivery of highway and transportation infrastructure projects. This entry-level role is suited to an engineering graduate or early-career professional who is eager to develop practical experience in a collaborative project environment. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers and contribute to projects ranging from local road improvements and junction upgrades to larger highway schemes and transport infrastructure developments.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with highway and civil engineering designs, preparing technical drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and cost estimates, and supporting the production of project documentation. You will help review site information, surveys, traffic data, and existing asset records, while contributing to feasibility studies, option assessments, and design development. The role may also involve coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, supporting planning and permitting activities, responding to technical queries, attending site visits, and assisting with construction-stage services. You will be expected to follow relevant design standards, health and safety requirements, quality procedures, and environmental considerations throughout each project.
Applicants should hold, or be working towards, a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related discipline. A basic understanding of highway design principles, drainage, road geometry, pavement construction, and relevant technical standards is desirable. Familiarity with design and drafting software, spreadsheets, and engineering calculation tools would be advantageous. Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage priorities and work effectively as part of a team. You should demonstrate enthusiasm for professional development, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from experienced colleagues. A valid driving licence may be required for site visits, depending on project needs.
