Railway Systems and RAMS Engineer
We are seeking a Railway Systems and RAMS Engineer to support the development, assurance and delivery of safe, reliable and compliant railway systems. Working across the full project lifecycle, you will contribute to the design, integration, verification and validation of complex rail infrastructure and rolling stock interfaces. You will apply RAMS principles in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and industry best practice, helping to ensure that operational, safety and performance requirements are clearly defined and achieved.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and maintaining RAMS plans, safety cases, hazard logs, reliability and availability analyses, failure mode and effects analyses, fault tree analyses and related technical reports. You will identify and assess hazards, coordinate risk-reduction activities, support the allocation and verification of safety requirements, and provide evidence for system acceptance and authorisation. You will work closely with engineering, operations, assurance, testing and project teams, leading or contributing to design reviews, safety workshops, audits, inspections and incident investigations. The role will also involve reviewing supplier documentation, monitoring compliance, managing technical interfaces and presenting clear findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Applicants should have experience in railway systems engineering, RAMS, safety assurance or a closely related discipline, ideally within rail, transportation or other safety-critical environments. A strong understanding of standards such as EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129, together with relevant UK or international railway safety requirements, is highly desirable. You will need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent technical writing ability and confidence communicating with stakeholders at all levels. An engineering qualification or equivalent professional experience is expected, while membership of an appropriate professional body and knowledge of systems engineering methods, configuration management and assurance processes would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be organised, collaborative and capable of managing competing priorities while maintaining a rigorous focus on safety, quality and delivery.
