Irrigation Engineer - Roads / Highways
We are seeking an experienced Irrigation Engineer to support the planning, design, construction and maintenance of irrigation systems associated with road and highway infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise across a range of civil engineering works, ensuring that irrigation, drainage and water-management systems are safe, efficient, sustainable and compliant with applicable standards.
Key responsibilities will include preparing irrigation designs, layouts, hydraulic calculations, technical specifications, drawings, cost estimates and tender documentation. You will assess site conditions, water availability, pressure and flow requirements, and coordinate the integration of irrigation systems with road corridors, landscaping, drainage, utilities and other civil works. The role will also involve reviewing contractor submissions, monitoring installation quality, inspecting completed works, resolving technical issues and supporting testing, commissioning and handover activities. You may be required to conduct site surveys, investigate system failures and recommend improvements to existing networks, including pumps, storage tanks, pipelines, valves, control systems and water-efficient technologies.
Applicants should hold a degree or diploma in irrigation engineering, civil engineering, agricultural engineering, water resources or a related discipline, together with relevant experience delivering irrigation or water-management systems within road, highway, infrastructure or major civil construction projects. Strong knowledge of hydraulic modelling, irrigation design principles, construction practices, health and safety requirements, environmental controls and relevant engineering standards is essential. Experience with design and technical software, including CAD and hydraulic modelling tools, will be advantageous. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to interpret technical information accurately. Effective communication and coordination skills are required to work with consultants, contractors, authorities and multidisciplinary project teams. A proactive approach, willingness to undertake regular site visits and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment are also important.
