Road Engineer- Roads and Highway

We are seeking a skilled Road Engineer to contribute to the planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads, highways and associated transport infrastructure. This role will suit a technically capable professional who can manage engineering activities across multiple project stages, from feasibility and detailed design through to construction support, completion and asset handover. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants and stakeholders to deliver safe, sustainable and high-quality highway projects.

Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing road geometry, pavement, drainage, earthworks, junction, traffic management and highway improvement designs; producing technical reports, specifications, drawings, schedules and cost estimates; and ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, legislation, safety requirements and environmental obligations. You will assist with site investigations, surveys, risk assessments, design reviews and constructability assessments, while providing technical advice during construction. The role will also involve monitoring progress and quality, reviewing contractor submissions, supporting inspections, resolving technical issues and maintaining accurate project documentation. You may be required to coordinate design inputs, contribute to procurement activities and support the development of less experienced engineers.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, highway engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience in roads and highways projects. Experience with road design, pavement engineering, drainage, traffic systems or infrastructure delivery is desirable, as is familiarity with applicable design standards, contract procedures, health and safety requirements and quality management processes. Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret technical data are essential. You will need excellent communication and organisational abilities, attention to detail, and the confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams and external partners. A professional engineering qualification, or progress towards one, would be advantageous.
