OCS Design Lead

We are seeking an experienced OCS Design Lead to provide technical leadership for the development and delivery of overhead catenary system designs across complex rail and transport infrastructure projects. You will lead design activities from feasibility and concept through to detailed design, construction support, testing and commissioning, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, buildable and aligned with project requirements.

Responsibilities will include managing and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, reviewing technical deliverables, and ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, legislation, client specifications and assurance processes. You will develop design strategies, specifications, calculations, drawings and technical reports, while providing expert guidance on system integration, electrical clearances, mechanical interfaces, structures, earthing and bonding. The role will also involve identifying and managing technical risks, supporting design reviews and approvals, responding to construction queries, and contributing to programme, cost and change management. You will work closely with project managers, engineering disciplines, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain design quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Applicants should have significant experience in overhead line or overhead catenary system design within the rail, tram or related infrastructure sector, together with a strong understanding of applicable industry standards and assurance requirements. Professional registration or working towards professional registration is desirable. You will need excellent technical, communication and coordination skills, with the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and make sound engineering decisions under pressure. Experience with design software, document control systems and design assurance processes is expected. A proactive, collaborative approach and a commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement are essential.
