Environmental Planner
We are seeking an experienced Environmental Planner to support the delivery of sustainable development, infrastructure and land-use projects. This role will involve applying environmental planning principles, interpreting legislation and policy, and providing practical advice that helps projects progress responsibly and efficiently. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, regulators, stakeholders and local communities to identify environmental opportunities, manage risks and ensure that planning decisions are informed by sound evidence.
Key responsibilities will include preparing and coordinating environmental assessments, planning reports, environmental impact documentation and supporting technical studies. You will review development proposals, identify potential effects on biodiversity, water, landscapes, heritage, climate, noise and other environmental receptors, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures. The role will also involve monitoring consent conditions, contributing to approval and permitting processes, reviewing consultant reports, maintaining accurate project records and providing clear written and verbal advice to internal and external stakeholders. You may also support consultation activities, site inspections, data analysis, policy reviews and the preparation of presentations or briefing materials.
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent qualification in environmental planning, environmental science, ecology, geography, urban planning or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience. Knowledge of environmental assessment procedures, planning frameworks, sustainability principles and applicable legislation is essential. Experience working on development, infrastructure or natural resource projects would be advantageous. You will be confident managing competing priorities, coordinating technical inputs and communicating complex information to varied audiences. Strong research, report-writing, analytical and organisational skills are required, along with sound judgement, attention to detail and a collaborative approach. The ability to work independently, contribute positively within a team and engage respectfully with stakeholders is essential. A current driving licence and willingness to travel to project or consultation sites may be required.
