Project Manager – Biologist/Ecologist

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Biologist/Ecologist to lead and deliver a range of environmental projects from inception through to completion. This role will suit a motivated professional with a strong background in ecology, biodiversity, or biological sciences, combined with proven project management capability. You will work across multidisciplinary teams, coordinating technical specialists, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard.

Key responsibilities will include defining project scopes, programmes, budgets, and resource requirements; preparing and managing proposals, tenders, work plans, risk registers, and project documentation; and monitoring progress against agreed milestones and financial targets. You will oversee ecological surveys, impact assessments, habitat assessments, protected species work, mitigation strategies, and environmental reporting, ensuring that outputs are scientifically robust and compliant with relevant legislation, permits, standards, and professional guidance. The role will also involve reviewing technical reports, providing expert biological or ecological advice, identifying project risks, and implementing practical solutions to resolve issues as they arise.

You will build effective relationships with clients, regulators, landowners, consultants, and internal teams, representing the project professionally at meetings, site visits, and consultations. A degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline is required, together with relevant project management experience and a sound understanding of ecological assessment and environmental regulations. Membership of an appropriate professional body, or progress towards professional accreditation, would be advantageous. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organisational and commercial awareness, and the ability to manage competing priorities. Experience with project management software, technical reporting, GIS, and fieldwork coordination would be beneficial. A full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites may be required.
