Water Resources Section Head
We are seeking an experienced Water Resources Section Head to lead the planning, development and delivery of water resources programmes and projects. The successful candidate will provide technical direction across water supply, hydrology, hydraulics, flood risk, drainage, wastewater interfaces and integrated water management initiatives. This role will involve setting priorities, managing workloads, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring that work is delivered to high professional, regulatory and quality standards.
Key responsibilities will include overseeing feasibility studies, assessments, designs and technical reports; reviewing hydrological and hydraulic models; evaluating water availability, demand, resilience and flood risk; and supporting the development of sustainable, climate-resilient solutions. You will manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, risks and resources, while contributing to procurement, contractor oversight and stakeholder engagement. The role will also require effective collaboration with regulators, public bodies, consultants, contractors and internal teams. You will be expected to identify opportunities for process improvement, maintain robust technical governance and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, environmental requirements, health and safety standards and industry best practice.
Applicants should hold a degree in water resources engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water resources planning, modelling or infrastructure delivery. Professional registration or equivalent chartered status is desirable. Strong knowledge of water management principles, flood risk assessment, hydraulic and hydrological modelling tools, environmental regulation and project management is essential. You should be an accomplished people leader with the ability to mentor technical staff, communicate complex information clearly and make sound, evidence-based decisions. A proactive approach, commercial awareness, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities are also required.
