Water/Wastewater Section Head

We are seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Section Head to lead the delivery of complex water and wastewater engineering projects from planning and design through to construction and commissioning. This role will provide technical direction, project leadership and strategic input across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure programmes, including water treatment, wastewater treatment, pumping stations, pipelines, storage facilities and associated networks. The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary teams, coordinate technical outputs and ensure that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, sustainably and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities include overseeing the preparation and review of technical reports, feasibility studies, designs, specifications, tender documentation and construction support services. You will manage budgets, programmes, resources and risks while maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, regulators and other project stakeholders. The role will also involve supporting business development, contributing to proposals, identifying opportunities for innovation and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and health, safety and environmental requirements. You will mentor engineers and technical staff, promote knowledge sharing and help build a high-performing section capable of delivering consistently excellent outcomes.

Applicants should hold a degree in civil, environmental, water or wastewater engineering, or a related discipline, and possess substantial professional experience in the water sector. Professional registration or chartered status is highly desirable, together with proven experience leading engineering teams and managing major infrastructure projects. Strong technical knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulic systems, network design and applicable regulatory requirements is essential. Excellent communication, commercial awareness, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills are required, along with the ability to prioritise competing demands and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Experience with digital design tools, project management systems and sustainable infrastructure solutions would be advantageous.
