Water/Wastewater Design Engineer

We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Design Engineer to support the delivery of innovative and sustainable infrastructure projects across the water sector. This role will involve working on the planning, design and development of water and wastewater treatment, collection, distribution and conveyance systems for a range of public and private sector clients. You will collaborate with experienced engineers, project managers, technicians and other specialists to develop practical, cost-effective solutions that meet technical, environmental and regulatory requirements.

Your responsibilities will include preparing calculations, technical specifications, drawings, reports and design documentation; developing hydraulic models and undertaking design assessments; contributing to feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, tender packages and construction support; and reviewing technical information to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance with relevant standards. You may also be involved in site visits, surveys, construction meetings and inspections, as well as liaising with clients, contractors, regulators and other project stakeholders. The role offers opportunities to contribute to projects from early concept through to completion while supporting continuous improvement in design processes and digital delivery.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, water engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in water and/or wastewater infrastructure design. Knowledge of hydraulic principles, industry standards, design software and applicable health, safety and environmental requirements is essential. Experience with tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfoWorks, EPANET or similar applications would be advantageous. You should be analytical, well organised and able to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are important. Professional registration or progress towards chartered status is desirable, as is experience mentoring junior colleagues and contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
