Water Resources Section Head
We are seeking an experienced Water Resources Section Head to lead the planning, development, and delivery of water resources projects and technical services. The role will provide strategic and technical direction across areas such as hydrology, hydraulics, water supply planning, flood risk management, drainage, groundwater, water quality, and integrated water resource management. You will oversee a multidisciplinary team, coordinate project priorities, and ensure that work is delivered to high professional, regulatory, financial, and safety standards.
Key responsibilities will include managing the preparation and review of technical studies, feasibility assessments, models, designs, reports, and project documentation. You will advise stakeholders on water resources risks and opportunities, support the development of long-term strategies, and contribute to the planning and implementation of infrastructure and environmental programmes. The role will also involve monitoring budgets and schedules, allocating resources, reviewing technical outputs, managing consultants and contractors, and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, standards, permits, and environmental requirements. You will build effective relationships with internal teams, regulators, clients, communities, and other partners, representing the water resources function in meetings and technical forums.
Applicants should hold a degree in water resources engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology, or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience in water resources planning or project delivery. Professional registration or membership of a relevant industry body is desirable. Strong knowledge of hydrological and hydraulic assessment methods, flood and drought risk management, water systems, data analysis, and industry software is expected. Experience leading teams and complex projects, managing competing priorities, and communicating technical information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences is essential. You should demonstrate sound judgement, commercial awareness, commitment to sustainable water management, and the ability to develop practical, evidence-based solutions in a collaborative environment.
