Civil Engineering Analyst - Surface Water

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Analyst – Surface Water to support the planning, assessment and delivery of sustainable drainage and surface water management solutions. This role will suit a civil engineer or water professional with strong analytical skills and an interest in flood risk, hydrology and the design of resilient infrastructure. You will contribute to a varied portfolio of projects, working with technical specialists, clients, contractors and regulatory stakeholders to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.

Your responsibilities will include undertaking surface water and drainage assessments, reviewing hydraulic and hydrological data, preparing calculations, and supporting the development of drainage strategies, flood risk assessments and sustainable drainage systems. You will help create technical reports, drawings, specifications and presentations, while checking design information for quality, compliance and constructability. The role will also involve interpreting survey and asset data, identifying risks and constraints, assisting with modelling and scenario analysis, and providing clear recommendations to support engineering and planning decisions.

Applicants should have a relevant degree or equivalent experience in civil engineering, water engineering, hydrology or a related discipline. Experience with surface water management, drainage design, flood risk assessment or hydraulic modelling is desirable, as is familiarity with relevant industry standards, planning requirements and environmental considerations. Knowledge of software such as AutoCAD, GIS, spreadsheets or hydraulic modelling packages would be advantageous. You will be expected to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across project teams. A methodical approach, attention to detail, commercial awareness and a commitment to health, safety and environmental standards are essential. Professional accreditation or progress towards chartership would be welcomed.
