Senior Associate: CEQA Compliance Key Accounts

We are seeking a Senior Associate: CEQA Compliance Key Accounts to lead complex environmental compliance assignments and serve as a trusted advisor to major clients. This role will oversee projects from initial scoping through document preparation, regulatory review, approvals, and post-approval compliance. The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), excellent project management capabilities, and the confidence to build productive relationships with clients, public agencies, consultants, and internal technical teams.

Responsibilities will include managing multiple concurrent CEQA projects; developing scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality-control procedures; preparing and reviewing Initial Studies, Negative Declarations, Mitigated Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports, addenda, exemptions, and related technical documentation; and coordinating contributions from specialists in areas such as biological resources, transportation, air quality, noise, cultural resources, and greenhouse gas emissions. You will monitor regulatory developments, identify project risks, guide mitigation and monitoring requirements, support public meetings and agency coordination, and ensure deliverables are accurate, defensible, and completed on schedule. As the key account lead, you will also maintain regular client communication, anticipate emerging needs, support proposals and contract negotiations, and contribute to long-term account strategy.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, urban and regional planning, natural resources, environmental science, or a related discipline, together with substantial professional experience delivering CEQA compliance services. Experience leading large or technically complex projects, managing key client accounts, and working with California public agencies is highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to explain regulatory issues to varied audiences are essential. Familiarity with NEPA, permitting processes, environmental justice, climate-related analysis, and applicable local planning requirements will be an advantage. The role requires effective collaboration, independent decision-making, and occasional travel for client meetings, site visits, hearings, and public workshops.
