Senior Environmental Compliance Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Compliance Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex environmental compliance programmes across a varied portfolio of projects and operational sites. This role will provide strategic and technical direction, ensuring that environmental obligations are understood, managed and consistently met throughout project lifecycles. You will work closely with internal teams, contractors, consultants, regulators and other stakeholders to promote strong environmental performance and support continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities will include managing environmental compliance projects from scope definition through to completion; developing and maintaining compliance strategies, plans, registers and reporting systems; interpreting environmental legislation, permits, licences and approvals; and overseeing audits, inspections, monitoring programmes and corrective actions. You will identify environmental risks, investigate incidents, recommend appropriate mitigation and ensure actions are tracked through to close-out. The role will also involve reviewing technical reports and assessments, preparing clear management information, contributing to governance forums and providing expert advice on matters including pollution prevention, waste, water, ecology, contaminated land, emissions and climate-related requirements.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in environmental compliance, project management or a closely related discipline, ideally within a regulated, infrastructure, construction, industrial or energy environment. A degree or equivalent qualification in environmental science, environmental management, engineering or a related subject is expected, together with a strong understanding of applicable environmental legislation, permitting frameworks and assurance processes. Professional membership of a relevant environmental body and recognised project management experience would be advantageous. You will be an organised and confident communicator, capable of influencing at all levels, managing competing priorities and translating complex technical requirements into practical actions. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing consultants and maintaining accurate compliance records is essential.
