Water Resource Area Discipline Lead
We are seeking an experienced Water Resource Area Discipline Lead to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of water resources, hydrology and hydraulic engineering projects. This role will support the delivery of high-quality, sustainable solutions for flood risk management, water infrastructure, catchment planning, drainage, river restoration and environmental resilience. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee technical delivery and help shape innovative approaches that respond to changing regulatory, climate and community needs.
Key responsibilities will include managing the technical quality, programme and resources of water-related projects; providing expert advice on hydrological and hydraulic assessments, flood studies, water management strategies and infrastructure design; reviewing calculations, models, reports and technical specifications; and ensuring work is delivered in accordance with relevant standards, legislation and best practice. You will collaborate with clients, regulators, contractors and internal specialists, communicate complex technical information clearly, and contribute to proposals, fee estimates and business development activities. The role will also involve mentoring and developing junior staff, promoting consistent technical processes, and supporting knowledge sharing across the wider discipline.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water resources, hydrology, environmental engineering or a related subject, with substantial professional experience in water resource management or a similar field. Professional registration or progress towards an appropriate chartered status is desirable. You will have strong knowledge of industry guidance, flood risk principles, catchment processes, hydraulic and hydrological modelling, and relevant digital tools. Excellent analytical, project management and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise competing demands, build effective relationships and make sound technical decisions. A proactive, collaborative approach and commitment to safety, sustainability, quality and continuous improvement are also required.
