Water Resources Engineering Associate I
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineering Associate I to support the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of water resources projects. This entry-level role is suited to an early-career engineer who is interested in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, flood risk, drainage, water supply, or related infrastructure. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers while developing practical technical skills and contributing to projects from initial investigation through construction and completion.
Responsibilities will include collecting and reviewing field data, technical reports, maps, survey information, and regulatory requirements; assisting with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling; preparing calculations, design drawings, specifications, technical memoranda, and permit documentation; and supporting the evaluation of drainage systems, channels, culverts, detention facilities, flood mitigation measures, and other water-related assets. You may also assist with site visits, inspections, data analysis, cost estimates, project schedules, and responses to technical queries. The role involves working collaboratively with engineers, scientists, surveyors, planners, contractors, clients, and regulatory stakeholders to help deliver accurate, practical, and sustainable solutions.
A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of fundamental hydrology, hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and engineering mathematics, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with engineering design and modelling software, geographic information systems, computer-aided design tools, spreadsheets, or programming applications is desirable. Professional registration, eligibility for registration, or progress toward a relevant engineering credential may be advantageous. The successful candidate will be organised, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and eager to learn, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, document technical work clearly, and contribute positively in both independent and team-based settings.
