Water Resources Engineer I
We are seeking a Water Resources Engineer I to support the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of water resources projects. This entry-level role offers the opportunity to work with experienced engineers and technical professionals on projects involving stormwater management, drainage, flood risk assessment, watershed studies, water quality, and hydraulic and hydrologic modelling. The successful candidate will contribute to projects from initial investigation and concept development through detailed design, permitting, construction support, and closeout.
Key responsibilities include collecting and reviewing field data, preparing technical calculations, developing design drawings and specifications, and assisting with reports, cost estimates, schedules, and permit applications. You will use engineering software and geographic information systems to perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, evaluate existing infrastructure, and develop practical solutions that meet applicable standards and regulatory requirements. The role may also involve site visits, field inspections, coordination with clients and project partners, responding to technical enquiries, and supporting construction administration activities. Clear documentation, careful quality control, and effective communication will be essential in all aspects of the work.
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources engineering, or a related discipline, with relevant coursework in hydrology, hydraulics, fluid mechanics, drainage, or water quality. Internship, co-op, or project experience in water resources or civil engineering is preferred. Familiarity with engineering design and modelling tools, CAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office applications is an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, writing, organisational, and teamwork skills, along with the ability to manage priorities and learn new technical methods. Eligibility for professional engineering registration, or progress toward it, is desirable. Occasional travel to project sites and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions may be required.
