Water Management Engineer
We are seeking a Water Management Engineer to support the planning, design, operation and improvement of water management systems and infrastructure. The role will involve developing practical, sustainable solutions for water supply, drainage, flood risk, water quality and resource management projects. You will work closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with technical, environmental and legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities will include preparing technical studies, calculations, specifications, reports and business cases; assessing water demand, drainage capacity, hydraulic performance and flood risk; reviewing designs and construction proposals; and contributing to asset management, maintenance and improvement programmes. You will monitor system performance, investigate operational issues, identify risks and recommend appropriate remedial actions. The role will also involve managing project information, supporting procurement and contract administration, tracking budgets and programmes, and providing clear technical advice to both technical and non-technical audiences. You may also be required to undertake site inspections, coordinate surveys and contribute to emergency response activities relating to water management incidents.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant professional experience in water, drainage, flood risk or infrastructure management. Experience with hydraulic modelling, asset management systems, design standards and technical software would be advantageous. A sound understanding of applicable environmental legislation, health and safety requirements, planning processes and sustainable water management principles is essential. You should be analytical, well organised and confident in interpreting data, solving complex problems and managing competing priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective stakeholder management and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team are also required. Professional registration or active progress towards professional accreditation would be desirable.
