We are seeking an experienced Deputy Structures Lead – Bridge or Port Structures to support the delivery of complex infrastructure projects from concept through to construction and completion. This role will suit a technically strong structural engineer with experience in bridge, marine, port, or other major civil structures, who is ready to take on increased leadership responsibility. You will work closely with project directors, design managers, construction teams, consultants, contractors, and clients to ensure that structural solutions are safe, practical, compliant, and delivered to the required quality, programme, and budget.
Responsibilities will include supporting the Structures Lead in managing technical design activities, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications, and design reports, and providing clear technical direction throughout the project lifecycle. You will contribute to design assurance, risk management, constructability reviews, value engineering, and the resolution of technical issues. The role will also involve monitoring consultant and contractor deliverables, supporting procurement and tender activities, attending design and site meetings, and helping to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, health and safety requirements, and environmental commitments. You may also be required to mentor junior engineers and deputise for the Structures Lead when needed.
Applicants should hold a degree in civil or structural engineering and possess substantial experience in the design and delivery of bridges, port structures, marine infrastructure, or similarly complex assets. Professional registration or a recognised engineering qualification is desirable, together with strong knowledge of reinforced and prestressed concrete, steelwork, foundations, temporary works, and structural assessment. Experience with design management, multidisciplinary coordination, construction methodology, and industry-standard structural analysis and design software will be advantageous. You will need excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders and make sound technical decisions. A collaborative approach, commercial awareness, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement are essential.
