Project Director (Roads)

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the successful delivery of major roads and highways infrastructure projects from planning and procurement through to construction, commissioning and close-out. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong commercial, technical and stakeholder management expertise, together with a proven record of delivering complex transport projects safely, on time and within budget.

You will provide strategic direction across the project lifecycle, establish effective governance and reporting arrangements, and ensure that delivery objectives are clearly defined and achieved. Key responsibilities will include managing multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors and supply-chain partners; overseeing design development, construction planning, quality assurance and programme performance; and maintaining robust controls for cost, risk, change, resources and compliance. You will also lead project reviews, resolve complex issues, manage contractual matters and ensure that health, safety, environmental and sustainability requirements are embedded throughout delivery. Building effective relationships with clients, authorities, communities and other stakeholders will be central to the role.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline, with substantial experience directing major roads, highways or transport infrastructure projects. Professional registration or membership of a relevant industry body is desirable. You will demonstrate strong knowledge of project controls, contract administration, procurement and construction methodologies, with experience working under complex contractual and regulatory frameworks. Excellent communication, negotiation and decision-making skills are essential, as is the ability to lead high-performing teams in a demanding, multi-stakeholder environment.
