We are seeking an experienced Railway Engineer to support the planning, design, delivery and maintenance of safe, reliable and efficient rail infrastructure. Working across multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute technical expertise throughout the asset lifecycle, from early feasibility and design development through to construction, testing, commissioning and handover. The role may involve track, rail systems, stations, structures, drainage, signalling interfaces or associated infrastructure, depending on project requirements.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing engineering designs, specifications, calculations, reports and technical documentation; assessing risks and identifying practical, cost-effective solutions; and ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation, standards, engineering principles and safety requirements. You will coordinate with contractors, consultants, operators, suppliers and internal stakeholders, provide technical advice, attend site inspections and design reviews, and support the resolution of construction or maintenance issues. You will also contribute to programme, cost and quality management, monitor progress against agreed deliverables, and maintain accurate project records.
Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, railway, mechanical, electrical or another relevant engineering discipline, together with demonstrable experience in railway or major infrastructure projects. A sound understanding of railway standards, engineering assurance, asset management and construction practices is essential. Experience with design software, technical review processes, risk assessment and multidisciplinary coordination would be advantageous. Professional registration or progress towards professional accreditation is desirable. You will need strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, a methodical approach to your work, and the ability to manage competing priorities while working collaboratively. A commitment to health, safety, quality and continuous improvement is essential, as is the flexibility to undertake site visits and occasional travel where required.
