Project Engineer - Rolling stock

We are seeking a Project Engineer – Rolling Stock to support the delivery of complex rail vehicle engineering and refurbishment projects. Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will contribute to the development, integration, testing and commissioning of rolling stock systems, ensuring that technical solutions meet operational, safety, quality and regulatory requirements. This is an opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from initial design and requirements definition through to manufacture, installation, acceptance and handover.

Your responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing technical documentation, specifications, drawings, calculations, risk assessments and verification plans. You will coordinate engineering activities with internal teams, suppliers, maintainers, operators and other project stakeholders, monitoring progress and resolving technical issues in a timely manner. You will support design reviews, configuration management, change control and non-conformance resolution, while ensuring that engineering decisions are properly recorded and traceable. The role will also involve contributing to testing and commissioning activities, investigating faults, analysing performance data and supporting the implementation of corrective actions.

Applicants should have an engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience, with a background in rolling stock, rail systems, mechanical, electrical, systems or related engineering disciplines. Experience of delivering engineering work within safety-critical or highly regulated environments is desirable, along with an understanding of railway standards, assurance processes and vehicle systems. You will need strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with engineering change processes, requirements management, testing and acceptance, and common technical documentation tools will be advantageous. A proactive and collaborative approach, attention to detail and a commitment to safe, reliable and maintainable solutions are essential.
