Senior Road Engineer- Road and Highway

We are seeking a Senior Road Engineer to lead the planning, design and delivery of road and highway infrastructure projects. The role will involve managing projects from feasibility and preliminary design through to detailed design, procurement, construction support and completion. You will prepare and review technical reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and design documentation, ensuring that all outputs meet applicable standards, regulations and client requirements. You will also provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians, review their work and support the development of effective, practical and sustainable engineering solutions.

Your responsibilities will include coordinating multidisciplinary design activities, assessing road geometry, pavement, drainage, earthworks, traffic arrangements and associated infrastructure. You will liaise with clients, contractors, utility providers, local authorities and other stakeholders, attending meetings, site inspections and progress reviews as required. The successful candidate will identify technical risks, resolve design and construction issues, contribute to programme and budget management, and promote high standards of quality, health and safety, environmental performance and document control throughout each project.

Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, with substantial experience in road and highway design and delivery. Professional registration or chartered status, where applicable, is desirable. You will have strong knowledge of relevant highway design standards, pavement engineering principles, construction methods, contract procedures and technical approval processes. Experience with design and modelling software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads or similar platforms is advantageous. Strong communication, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. A proactive approach, commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure will be key to success in this role.
