We are seeking an experienced Water Resources Staff Engineer to support the delivery of technically robust and sustainable water management projects. This role will involve working across a varied portfolio, contributing to flood risk management, drainage, hydrology, hydraulic modelling and water-related infrastructure schemes.

You will work closely with engineers, planners, environmental specialists, clients and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions from concept through to detailed design and delivery. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical input, support project coordination and contribute to the development of less experienced team members.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake hydrological and hydraulic assessments for rivers, surface water, drainage networks and flood risk management schemes.
  • Develop, review and interpret hydraulic models using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, optioneering, outline and detailed design projects.
  • Support the preparation of planning, environmental and regulatory submissions.
  • Manage allocated tasks, budgets and programmes, ensuring work is delivered to a high technical standard.
  • Attend site visits, inspections and project meetings, communicating findings clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate and junior engineers.

About you

You will hold a degree in civil engineering, water engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, with relevant professional experience in water resources or flood risk management. Chartered or working towards chartership with an appropriate professional institution, you will have a sound understanding of UK water, drainage and flood risk legislation, guidance and design standards.

Experience with hydraulic modelling software, GIS and data analysis tools is desirable, along with the ability to interpret technical information and apply engineering judgement. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to organise your workload and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

This is an opportunity to work on challenging and meaningful projects while developing your technical, project management and leadership skills within a supportive, professional environment.
