Staff Engineer - Industrial Water Treatment

We are seeking a Staff Engineer – Industrial Water Treatment to provide technical leadership across the development, design, and delivery of complex water and wastewater treatment solutions. This role will support projects from early feasibility and concept development through detailed design, commissioning, and operational support. You will act as a senior technical authority, helping to define practical, compliant, and cost-effective treatment strategies for industrial clients with demanding water quality, production, and environmental requirements.

Key responsibilities include developing process designs, treatment philosophies, mass balances, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and technical reports. You will review and optimise treatment technologies such as clarification, filtration, membrane systems, biological treatment, chemical dosing, sludge handling, water reuse, and zero-liquid-discharge solutions. The role will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, contractors, clients, and site personnel; reviewing calculations and design deliverables; contributing to risk assessments and design reviews; and providing technical input during procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. You will also help establish engineering standards, mentor less experienced engineers, and promote consistent application of safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Applicants should hold a degree in chemical, environmental, civil, mechanical, or process engineering, or a closely related discipline, with substantial experience in industrial water or wastewater treatment. Professional registration or chartered status is desirable. You will need strong knowledge of treatment processes, process engineering principles, relevant legislation, and industry standards, together with experience preparing technical documentation and managing interfaces across major projects. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to influence technical decisions and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Experience with industrial sectors such as manufacturing, energy, mining, food and beverage, or chemicals would be advantageous. Occasional travel to project and client sites may be required.
