We are seeking a skilled Water/Wastewater Staff Engineer to support the delivery of challenging infrastructure projects across the water sector. This role would suit an experienced civil or environmental engineer with strong technical capability, sound commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering practical, sustainable solutions for clients and communities.

You will contribute to projects involving water supply, wastewater collection and treatment, drainage, flood risk management and associated infrastructure. Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership, support project delivery and help develop innovative approaches that meet regulatory, environmental and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and review technical designs, specifications, calculations, reports and drawings for water and wastewater schemes.
  • Lead or contribute to feasibility studies, option appraisals and detailed design projects.
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
  • Assist with project planning, programming, resourcing, risk management and financial control.
  • Support the preparation of bids, technical proposals and client presentations.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety, quality assurance and environmental performance.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, industry guidance, design standards and emerging technologies.

About you

You will have a degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, together with relevant experience in the water or wastewater sector. Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status is desirable. Experience with industry-standard design software, hydraulic modelling tools and technical documentation would be advantageous.

You should be confident communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable working independently or collaboratively. A proactive approach, attention to detail and the ability to identify effective, buildable solutions are essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career while contributing to resilient, safe and sustainable water infrastructure. Flexible working arrangements and professional development support are available.
