An experienced Utilities Maintenance Superintendent is required to lead the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of essential utility systems across a large operational site. This is a key leadership position, responsible for ensuring that plant, equipment and infrastructure remain compliant, available and fit for purpose.
You will manage day-to-day maintenance activities across utilities including steam, boilers, compressed air, refrigeration, water treatment, effluent systems, electrical distribution and associated mechanical services. Working closely with operations, engineering and health and safety teams, you will prioritise work, resolve technical issues and support continuous improvement across the site.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop a team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians and contractors.
- Plan and coordinate preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance activities.
- Maintain high standards of plant reliability, asset performance and operational resilience.
- Ensure utility systems comply with statutory, regulatory and site-specific safety requirements.
- Manage permits, isolations, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Control maintenance budgets, contractor performance, spares and service agreements.
- Investigate failures, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Monitor key performance indicators and provide clear maintenance and reliability reports.
- Support capital projects, upgrades and commissioning of new utility equipment.
About you
You will have substantial experience in utilities, facilities or industrial maintenance, ideally within a highly regulated or process-led environment. A recognised engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent technical experience is required, together with demonstrable expertise in mechanical and electrical systems.
Strong knowledge of compliance, planned maintenance systems, contractor management and continuous improvement methodologies will be essential. You should be an effective communicator with the confidence to make sound decisions, manage competing priorities and build positive relationships at all levels. A proactive approach, strong safety leadership and a commitment to operational excellence are vital for success in this role.
